Notice Period

The amount of advance warning an employee or employer must give before ending the job.

A notice period is the time between resigning (or being let go) and actually leaving — commonly two weeks to three months depending on the country, contract and seniority. It gives both sides time to hand over work and plan.

Notice periods vary widely across borders, which matters on distributed teams. Check yours before accepting a new offer, since a long notice can delay your start date.
