Freelancer

A self-employed person who sells their services to multiple clients rather than working for one employer.

A freelancer works for themselves, taking on projects from various clients — writing, design, development, consulting and more. They set their own rates and schedule, but also handle their own taxes, benefits, sales and unpaid gaps between work.

Freelancing is closely related to being a contractor, and it powers much of the gig economy. Many people freelance remotely worldwide; others use it as a bridge to a full-time remote role.
