What Does a Platform Engineer Do?

Builds the internal tooling and infrastructure that lets other engineers ship quickly and safely.

A platform engineer treats the development platform as a product: building the CI/CD, environments, service templates and self-service tooling that other engineering teams use every day. The goal is to remove friction so product teams can deploy without needing deep infrastructure knowledge.

It is an evolution of DevOps toward internal developer experience, and it is almost entirely remote-compatible since the whole surface is code and cloud.
