What Does a Network Engineer Do?

Designs, configures and troubleshoots the networks that connect systems and people.

A network engineer plans and maintains network infrastructure — routing, switching, firewalls, VPNs and increasingly cloud networking. They diagnose connectivity and performance problems, harden the network against attack, and keep distributed offices and services reachable.

Cloud and software-defined networking have made much of this work remote. For distributed companies, secure, reliable connectivity is business-critical.
