What Does a Cloud Engineer Do?

Builds and operates the cloud infrastructure applications run on.

A cloud engineer provisions, configures and maintains infrastructure on AWS, Azure or GCP — networks, compute, storage, identity and cost controls — usually defined as code. They sit close to DevOps and SRE, focused on the cloud layer itself.

The infrastructure lives in the cloud, so the job does too: this is one of the most naturally remote engineering roles, with steady demand across every industry.
